A connection to the company mailbox — Gmail API or IMAP — is the input. Incoming mail is classified, attachments are extracted, fields are read off the document, and the result is registered against a vendor with a date, an amount and a currency. Rules decide what a document is and where it goes, so the behaviour is yours to set rather than a black box’s to guess.

Encrypted, and on your own instance.
Documents are stored in a Fernet-encrypted blob vault that lives with the application. This matters more here than in most products, because the input is a company mailbox: the product necessarily sees invoices, contracts, bank correspondence and whatever else arrives. It is designed to be run by you, against your database, with the documents in your vault.
The product reads the mailbox you connect and the folders you point it at. It does not send your documents to a third-party processing service in the community edition, and the AI features that do involve a model are part of the commercial edition and are switchable.
