The Discount That Ate the Company.
Brightlane Digital buys AI capacity by the million units. Solenne’s Celeste Varga has an offer: up to 58% off list, if Brightlane promises to buy.
- The deal
- The empty cars
- The renewal
How to read this story. Three decisions in plain English; each answer is a visible bundle of the same model inputs as the full episode, and every original contract configuration stays available under Advanced. This is a simulation of a fictional company, Brightlane Digital, and a fictional capacity provider, Solenne. Every unit, price and dollar is computed in your browser by a commitment model from the decisions on this path; the same decisions always give the same months. The rate card is a fictional scenario input, not any real provider’s price. The train is our picture of the contract, not a product screen. The contract, its negotiation, approval and renewal are Brightlane’s own procurement process. Tracston products appear only as the source of usage evidence their public pages describe; the one product action in the story is a routing rule Brightlane writes in Imperium.
Chapter 1 · Month 0
The Offer
“Then stop paying full price.”
At The Exchange, Solenne’s Celeste Varga offers Brightlane 58% off every unit, if it promises to buy 92,000 units a month for three years. Thirty-six cars couple on behind the dining car: one for every month promised.
Chapter 2 · Month 0
The Spreadsheet That Said Yes
“How many fewer?” “…I don’t know.”
Inside the dining car, Maya’s price is right and Owen is sure Brightlane will grow. Daniel says LANE is making them more efficient. What they actually used: about 30,400 units a month.
Chapter 3 · Month 0
What Are You Signing?
“Thirty-six months. Used or not.”
The fine print rises out of the sand: rails you can’t leave, a red switch far down the line. Celeste makes the offer, Maya defends it, Daniel challenges it. Then Decision 1: the deal.
Chapter 4 · Months 1-13
The Honeymoon
“Two years. Fine. We’ll catch up.”
The contract runs. The price per unit is exactly as promised, LANE’s caching makes the same orders need fewer units, and Marlow slows its store openings.
Chapter 5 · Month 14
The Empty Cars
“Look in the cars.”
At the Shortfall Siding the camera walks the train car by car. Then Celeste comes back with an offer to make every car smaller, for a longer train. Decision 2: the empty cars.
Chapter 6 · Months 15-36
The Junction
“Who’s watching it?”
Into the canyon country. Past the bridge, the red switch is set to the loop: the contract renews by itself unless someone says no in time. Decision 3: the renewal.
Chapter 7 · Replay
Sign It Again
“Same desk. Same price list. Different promise?”
Back to month 0 with your train as a ghost. Play it again with a different deal and see three figures side by side: the result against list, what was paid for but never used, and what is still promised. The full investigation is one level down, under Advanced.
